Morning Star Church will once again host a golf
for the benefit of Habitat for Humanity and Volunteers in Mission.
For the first time, Morning Star is expanding our golf tournament to include two,
9-hole competitions on Friday afternoon, June 20, in addition to the two, 18-hole shotgun starts on Saturday, June 21. Friday’s activities also include dinner, a live auction, and guest speaker, PGA professional, Jim Holtgrieve.
Since the 1970s, Jim Holtgrieve has been a legend in St. Louis golf. As an amateur for 20 years, he won the inaugural USGA Mid-Amateur Championship, played in four Masters, represented the United States at the World Amateur Team Championship at Pinehurst, and played in three Walker Cup matches. In 1998, Holtgrieve turned pro, earning nearly $1.4 million in 122 starts over eight years.
Holtgrieve, now 60, will return to amateur status with his appearance at the USGA Senior Open qualifier on June 18 at Bellerive. He is on a short-list of candidates to serve as Captain of the 2011 United States Walker Cup team.
